Black fiberglass backing does not allow any light to escape through the screen material guaranteeing all of the projected light is reflected off of the screen for optimal brightness.
Other companies sell PVC materials that do not have fiberglass backing. These materials are often translucent and allow light to pass through the material decreasing the image brightness and degrading the image quality.
